Ettifos Receives Critical Product Certification

Ettifos is a 5G-focused Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) solutions provider invested in enabling the most advanced smart city/smart intersection deployments and connected vehicles technology. The company supplies innovative and versatile On-Board Unit (OBU) and Roadside Unit (RSU) systems tailored to customers' specific project and service requirements, with the vision of connecting all entities in motion to create a world with safer, smarter, and more efficient roads.

In May, the South Korea-based company announced that it had officially received Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) product certification for its OBU V2X-AIR from the global certification body OmniAir Consortium. V2X-AIR is a compact, lightweight aftermarket OBU based on the C-V2X standard, a technology that has been adopted as the V2X standard in the United States, South Korea, China, and other key markets around the world. Hacienda is home to the North American headquarters for Ettifos, which has been a tenant since 2019.

Designed for easy in-vehicle installation, V2X-AIR can be paired with a smartphone application for enhanced usability across a wide range of vehicle types, from passenger cars to commercial fleets, supporting a variety of V2X applications to deliver critical information to drivers for improved road safety and traffic efficiency. As a result, the innovative solution has been recognized for overcoming key usability and installation challenges that have historically limited the widespread adoption of V2X services.

Being one of the industry's most trusted certification bodies for connected vehicle technologies, OmniAir's rigorous testing process confirms that V2X-AIR meets international standards for performance, interoperability, and security — ensuring its compatibility with connected vehicle systems across major global markets, including the United States. Building on this milestone, officials for Ettifos say they plan to secure OmniAir certification for all of the V2X product lines by the end of the first half of 2025 to further strengthen the company's position in the rapidly growing global V2X market.

"Gaining OmniAir certification demonstrates that our V2X solution has passed both laboratory and field tests required by global standards," according to Yongtae Park, Ettifos Chief Technology Officer. "It signifies that we have achieved the level of interoperability and communication performance demanded by the U.S. and global markets, laying a strong foundation for international market competitiveness. We sincerely thank the Telecommunications Technology Association, the only OmniAir authorized test laboratory in Korea, for their assistance throughout the certification process, and the wider OmniAir team for their continued support."

"Congratulations to Ettifos for earning OmniAir Certification for their V2X-AIR OBU," says Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. "We applaud Ettifos's commitment to providing trusted and interoperable V2X solutions to help advance transportation safety and mobility around the world."

Ettifos was the first in the world to commercialize a 5G-V2X solution, according to its officials. V2X is a critical communication technology for autonomous driving and connected mobility. Ettifos developed a Software Defined Modem (SDM) solution that implements the C-V2X standard adopted in China, the United States, and South Korea. Ettifos' SDM solution offers the flexibility to switch between the current LTE-V2X standard to the latest 5G-V2X standard through a simple software update, eliminating the need for hardware replacement. This SDM solution, which updates the communication modem via OTA, offers the key advantage of reducing maintenance cost of V2X systems in vehicles or on road infrastructure. In February, the 5G Automotive Association recognized the development of the Ettifos 5G-V2X modem chipset as one of six key industry advancements during the fourth quarter of 2024.
