Support for environmentally friendly commute options is a fundamental part of the Hacienda experience. Companies that use the array of transportation services offered to Hacienda employees reduce single-occupant vehicle use significantly, according to studies by local and regional agencies.
Moving commuters from single-occupant vehicles to transit alternatives means reduced vehicle miles traveled, reduced congestion, and improved air quality in Pleasanton, the Tri-Valley, and the greater San Francisco Bay Area. But it also frequently means a commute that is more convenient, faster, and less expensive than driving alone. That is why Hacienda has worked so hard to educate employees and residents about their many transit options, which include public transit, carpooling, electric vehicles, cycling, and walking.
Hacienda is on the cutting edge of a national movement. By offering a range of commuter benefits, Hacienda gives employees the support they need to get to and from work so they can be at their best.Julie Bond, Program Manager, Best Workplaces for Commuters
Hacienda employees and residents have access to a customized Commuter Resource Center. This online tool provides the latest information about commute modes as well as updates on special offers that help make the work commute more efficient, more productive, and less expensive.
These special offers include the ECOpass, which entitles Hacienda residents and employees to free rides on the local Wheels bus. Wheels operates seven days a week and makes stops at Hacienda, BART, and other locations throughout the Tri-Valley area. Additional support services include a free carpool or vanpool match list, walking and bicycling support services, and a free Guaranteed Ride Home for people who use a commute alternative.
Residents and employees at Hacienda also enjoy a discount rate on various forms of ridesharing. With an ever increasing selection of alternatives, new ways to carpool and vanpool offer a cost-effective and quick means of getting to work.
Hacienda is part of the region's extensive electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with nearly 100 electric vehicle charging stalls at 21 different projects on the property. That number is expected to grow as more companies and individuals respond to the dropping prices of zero-emission vehicles in California.
The Hacienda comprehensive program of commute alternatives regularly receives national recognition. In 2020, Hacienda was once again named one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters for offering exceptional employee-provided commuter benefits that meet the National Standard of Excellence criteria. Hacienda's Best Workplaces for Commuters Site designation can be shared by any of the development's business tenants who choose to sign up for the program.
Hacienda's core commuter benefits have been regularly acknowledged under this program since its inception by the Environmental Protection Agency over a decade ago. The Best Workplaces for Commuters program recognizes employers that offer benefits such as subsidized transit passes, carpooling, and telework opportunities. On multiple occasions Hacienda has also received the program's Gold Award in the Best Workplaces for Commuters Race to Excellence.
