Hacienda is a mixed-use, planned unit development of distinction and quality. Ideally situated at the junction of two major interstate freeways, I-580 and I-680, Hacienda is about halfway between San Francisco to the northwest and Silicon Valley to the southwest. Its central location and convenient transportation options give employers easy access to the San Francisco Bay Area's commercial centers, airports, shipping ports, and the region's largest and most-educated workforce, according to the 2018 Tri-Valley Still Rising report. At 875 gross acres, and 730 net acres, Hacienda is the largest development of its kind in Northern California.
Construction at Hacienda began in 1982, with the first office building completed in August 1983. Today more than 11 million square feet of mixed-use space is occupied by hundreds of companies. Under the current plan Hacienda is expected to contain roughly 9.8 million square feet of commercial space and nearly 3,000 residential units, making it a working or living location for over 33,000 people.

Hacienda was originally developed by The Prudential Insurance Company of America with Callahan Property Company. Other developers who built projects in Hacienda include Britannia Developments, Chamberlin Associates, Sammis-Uranium, Signature Properties, The Koll Company, and The Martin Group.
Many business tenants are also investors in Hacienda. Companies that own their facilities in Hacienda include Kaiser Permanente, Marriott, Oracle, Roche Molecular Systems, The Gap, Sheraton, Simpson Strong-Tie, John Muir, and State Compensation Insurance Fund.
Over time, Hacienda has welcomed a dynamic mix of owners who continue to find opportunities for new projects.
