  • Roche Molecular Systems

Roche Molecular Systems and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) have entered into a research collaboration to enable more specific prediction of a woman's risk for developing cervical cancer.

The work is based on recent DKFZ research indicating that the relative amounts of certain RNA markers in cells infected with human papilloma virus (HPV) can be used to differentiate between cervical cancer and pre-cancer from low-grade cervical lesions. DKFZ's research is being conducted using Roche proprietary platforms, which will facilitate direct transition and application of any relevant findings to the Roche diagnostics product line.

"DKFZ is among the world's leading HPV research institutes. Through this collaboration, we have the opportunity to work with them to further improve screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer," says Paul Brown, Ph.D., president and CEO of Roche Molecular Diagnostics. "Our hope is that this will ultimately lead to the development of a new test to make cervical cancer screening, diagnosis and grading even more accurate and specific."

  • Bivio Networks

Hacienda's Bivio Networks has joined the Open Source Information Security Foundation (OISF) Suricata Project. The project, a non-profit initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a multinational group of networking vendors, systems integrators and managed security organizations, is developing an open source engine capable of performing real-time analysis on network traffic to detect suspicious probes, intrusions and attacks.

"Network attacks are more prevalent and pernicious than ever, so making networks more resilient against attack is the challenge of our times," says Dr. Elan Amir, president and CEO of Bivio Networks. "We are honored to contribute our time, equipment and expertise to develop, in collaboration with OISF's other industry partners, advanced intrusion detection solutions to protect critical federal and enterprise infrastructures."
