WHEELS to Expand, Personalize Service

With the arrival of BART in Hacienda, the Livermore-Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) is working on its own version of a welcoming committee through WHEELS, its bus service.

WHEELS will have a bus on hand to meet every incoming BART train during peak periods, in addition to other new services.

Even with these improvements, Hacienda employees will still be able to use their free WHEELS passes creating, in essence, a free shuttle between the station and their business.

A New Route for Hacienda

Beginning Monday, May 12, WHEELS will begin to use the Dublin-Pleasanton station as the hub of its routes. During peak usage periods such as morning and afternoon commutes, a WHEELS bus will be on hand to meet every incoming BART train.

Buses on routes 7, 8, and 9, which serve Hacienda, will arrive at BART every 30, 30, and 15 minutes, respectively. Routes 10, 4, and 5 also serve parts of the park.

Route 9 is a new line introduced in anticipation of increased transit needs within Hacienda. The map below shows the routes of WHEELS buses in Hacienda.

DART to Lunch

WHEELS is introducing a new service, DART, which will operate in the place of some fixed route buses from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends.

Passengers simply call WHEELS at least an hour before the trip and a dispatcher will direct the rider to a pick up point nearby. Shuttles will take the most direct route to the drop off point nearest their destination.

"We expect a lot of people in Hacienda will use DART to go to BART or to the mall on their lunch hour," says WHEELS' Merrie DuFrene.
